Saint Lucia’s tourism industry soared in 2024, with annual figures from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) confirming a 14% rise in stayover arrivals, surpassing 435,000 visitors. Growth was evident across all sectors, with cruise ship calls increasing by 18% and yachting numbers up 7% from 2023.
The UK market closed the year with December arrivals up 11% year-over-year, contributing to an overall 4% growth. The US remained the top source market, accounting for over half of all visitors and recording a 20% increase. The UK followed as the second-largest market, comprising 20% of total stayovers, with British travelers averaging a 10-night stay. The Caribbean market, ranking third, experienced a 17% boost.
Traditionally a winter getaway, Saint Lucia has been evolving into a year-round destination, supported by a dynamic events calendar that has driven consistent monthly visitor numbers. SLTA Director for UK & Europe, Patricia Charlery-Leon, emphasized the importance of travel despite economic challenges, attributing the destination’s appeal to its warm hospitality and diverse experiences.
Looking ahead, 2025 will welcome the return of major events, including the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival in May, Lucian Carnival in July, and heritage celebrations in October. Trade engagement initiatives will continue through the Saint Lucia Expert (SLEx) program, webinars, and fam trips focused on adventure, luxury, and romance. The SLTA Showcase Week is scheduled for 15th September 2025.
Further efforts will support local communities, with new tours and experiences launching under the SLTA’s Community Tourism Agency. UK airlift remains strong, with British Airways maintaining a daily year-round service from London Gatwick and Virgin Atlantic committed to an annual winter route from London Heathrow.
