Rory Linkletter Eyes Redemption and Olympic Momentum with Boston, Ottawa Marathons

Canadian marathoner Rory Linkletter is skipping the 2025 World Athletics Championships to focus on key spring races that could set him up for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He’ll first tackle the Boston Marathon on Monday, seeking redemption after a tough debut in 2021, followed by a headline run at the Ottawa Marathon on May 25 where he hopes to claim his first marathon win.

Linkletter, who boasts a 2:08:01 personal best, wants to run faster in the near future, targeting times as low as 2:05. He’s leaving open the possibility of fall races like Chicago, Valencia, or The Marathon Project depending on his spring performances.

Coming off a strong 10,000m PB of 27:48.23 in California, the Calgary-born athlete has hit peak training levels, averaging over 200 km per week. His marathon prep included two half marathons within six days, highlighted by a 60:57 PB in Japan. Now living in Arizona with his family, the U.S. citizen says he’s fitter and more confident heading into Boston.

His goal in Boston is clear: race strong from start to finish, avoid the survival mode that plagued his 2021 run, and aim for a top-10 finish or even a personal best.

Also competing for Canada are Thomas Toth in the men’s race, and Rachel Hannah, Kylee Raftis, and Kate Bazeley in the women’s pro field.
