Rogers Communications Inc. has secured a groundbreaking 12-year agreement worth $11 billion with the National Hockey League (NHL) to continue its exclusive media rights for NHL games across all platforms in Canada. The new deal, set to run through the 2037-38 season, more than doubles the value of the current agreement, which is valued at $5.2 billion and expires next season.
Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri emphasized the company’s pride in extending its partnership with the NHL, calling hockey “Canada’s game.” He further highlighted the importance of sports to Rogers, stating that these rights are the most valuable in Canadian sports media.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman expressed mutual commitment, noting Rogers’ outstanding role in connecting the league with passionate Canadian fans for over a decade.
The new agreement includes full national broadcasting rights for regular-season games, playoff matches, the Stanley Cup Final, and special events, across TV, digital, and streaming platforms in all languages. However, the future role of the CBC, which has aired NHL games since 1952, remains uncertain, with CBC stating they are focused on the upcoming playoff season.
The deal also includes sub-licensing opportunities, with specific rights for French-language broadcasts and a one-night exclusive national package.
