Repeat Offender Charged in Winnipeg Teen Sexual Assault Case

A 49-year-old man from Red Lake, Ontario, Scott Christopher Alcorn, has been charged with multiple offences after allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Winnipeg.

Police say Alcorn initiated contact with the girl, who is in her mid-teens, through private messages on social media in December. He reportedly gained her trust and developed an online relationship before travelling 255 kilometres from Red Lake to Winnipeg on April 11 to meet her in person. Authorities were alerted and found Alcorn with the girl at a city residence, where the alleged assault occurred.

He now faces charges including sexual assault, sexual interference, luring a person under 16 via telecommunication, and transmitting explicit material to a minor. Alcorn remains in custody.

This is not his first conviction involving minors. In 2015, Alcorn, then 39, had sexual relations with a girl just two days past her 16th birthday. Court documents reveal he gave her alcohol in exchange for sex while she was under the care of the child welfare system and struggling with mental health and addiction issues. That act was recorded by Kevin Rose, who was later sentenced to 21 years for crimes involving several girls.

Alcorn was originally sentenced to 15 months in jail, but following a successful Crown appeal, his sentence was increased to five years, with credit for time served. The Manitoba Court of Appeal emphasized the need for tougher sentencing to better protect vulnerable children.
