PWHL Vancouver has emerged as a major force in early free agency, signing three of the top forwards available: North Vancouver native Hannah Miller (three-year deal), two-time Walter Cup champion Michela Cava (two years), and Ottawa Charge standout Tereza Vanišová (two years). The expansion franchise now looks like an early title contender thanks to a potent offensive boost.
Hannah Miller, returning to her home province, brings elite two-way play and power-play production after tallying 24 points in 29 games with Toronto. General Manager Cara Gardner Morey described her as “an elite forward who can put up points and wear down opponents.”
Michela Cava, known for her clutch playoff performances and five straight championships across four leagues, joins after two dominant seasons in Minnesota. Her playmaking and vision are expected to elevate Vancouver’s offensive game.
Tereza Vanišová, who matched Hilary Knight with 15 goals last season, adds speed, scoring touch, and physicality. Though she led the league in penalty minutes, her presence alongside stars like Sarah Nurse offers versatility and grit.
The additions follow a strategic expansion draft that left Vancouver with cap space to target top-six forwards. The team now boasts depth and star power across the board.
Meanwhile, Toronto re-signed MVP Natalie Spooner and forward Jesse Compher to two-year deals. Spooner, despite knee surgery, still led the league with 27 points and earned Forward of the Year. Toronto also added goalie Elaine Chuli and forward Claire Dalton, possibly signaling a trade for underperforming goalie Kristen Campbell.
In Montreal, defender Kati Tabin re-signed for two years, solidifying a blue line weakened by expansion losses. The Victoire also bolstered center depth by signing Ottawa’s Shiann Darkangelo.
Boston retained third-leading scorer Susanna Tapani on a one-year extension, key after losing Hilary Knight and Hannah Bilka to Seattle.
The PWHL free agency window remains open until June 27 and will resume July 8. The entry draft takes place June 24 in Ottawa.
