Authorities in Seattle are investigating a violent home invasion at a property linked to rapper Macklemore, as first reported by the Seattle Times. Police confirmed the residence belongs to a “high-profile individual,” with public records and reporting tying the address to the Grammy-winning artist.
The incident, which occurred while Macklemore was reportedly away, involved a nanny caring for children in the home. According to the Seattle Police Department, the nanny said she had just put the children to bed when two men entered through a patio door. One suspect reportedly doused her with bear spray before pinning her to the ground.
While restrained, the suspects ransacked the residence and stole thousands of dollars’ worth of items. The suspects remained in the home for several minutes until the nanny managed to break free and call police, prompting their swift exit. Fortunately, the three children present were unharmed.
This break-in comes amid a string of targeted burglaries of Seattle-area professional athletes. In a recent case, a man was charged in connection with break-ins at the homes of former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez, among others.
Law enforcement has not indicated whether the Macklemore case is connected to that pattern of crimes.
