Phone Footage Challenges Israel’s Account in Fatal Shooting of 15 Palestinian Medics

Newly surfaced phone footage appears to cast serious doubt on the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) account of a tragic incident in Gaza, where 15 Palestinian medics were reportedly killed during military operations. The video, which has rapidly spread across social media and news outlets, shows what witnesses claim is a deliberate targeting of a marked medical team—raising fresh concerns over violations of international humanitarian law.

The incident, which took place amid ongoing hostilities in the Gaza Strip, was initially described by Israeli authorities as a response to hostile fire originating from the vicinity of the medical personnel. However, the footage allegedly shows no evidence of combat activity near the medics at the time of the strike.

According to eyewitnesses and local health officials, the victims were part of a volunteer emergency response group providing aid in a heavily shelled neighborhood. The phone recording captures the group wearing clearly identifiable medical vests and moving toward injured civilians when a sudden explosion occurs, seemingly without warning.

“This wasn’t crossfire. It was a direct hit,” said Dr. Fadi al-Kahlout, a senior coordinator with Gaza’s emergency services. “These medics were unarmed, visibly marked, and fulfilling their humanitarian duty.”

The Israeli military has since stated that it is reviewing the footage and will conduct a formal investigation if new evidence warrants it. However, rights groups have called for an independent international probe, citing a growing pattern of attacks on medical and humanitarian personnel during the ongoing conflict.

Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have both issued statements demanding accountability, urging Israel to uphold its obligations under the Geneva Conventions. “Targeting medical personnel is a serious violation of international law,” said Lama Fakih, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “If this footage is verified, it could point to a grave breach of those laws.”

The United Nations has also expressed concern, with officials from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) condemning the rising number of casualties among first responders and aid workers in Gaza. According to OCHA, more than 70 humanitarian workers have been killed since the conflict escalated last year.

The ongoing war in Gaza has triggered international outrage, with mounting civilian casualties and a humanitarian crisis intensifying by the day. Hospitals remain overwhelmed, fuel and medical supplies are running dangerously low, and widespread displacement continues to worsen the region’s instability.

While Israeli officials maintain their military operations are targeted and necessary to neutralize Hamas militants, the increasing number of civilian deaths—particularly among aid workers—has drawn widespread scrutiny from the global community.

As investigations unfold and calls for international intervention grow louder, this latest footage could become a pivotal moment in reshaping global perceptions of Israel’s conduct in Gaza. For many Palestinians, however, it is yet another devastating reminder of the human cost of war.
