Phil Robertson, the iconic outdoorsman, entrepreneur, and patriarch of the “Duck Dynasty” family, has died at 79, his family confirmed. A statement posted by his daughter-in-law Korie Robertson celebrated his life of faith and impact, noting, “Phil Robertson is now with the Lord.” A cause of death was not disclosed, though son Jase Robertson previously revealed he was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
Robertson founded Duck Commander, a business known for duck calls and hunting gear. His family’s journey turned into the hit A&E series Duck Dynasty, which aired from 2012 to 2017 and chronicled their tight-knit bond and multi-million dollar empire.
“In the duck hunting world he was an innovator,” read a tribute from Duck Commander’s Instagram. The Duck Dynasty Facebook page also honored him, calling him a “hunting industry pioneer.”
Robertson was briefly suspended from the show in 2013 over controversial comments in a GQ interview, but returned after public backlash.
The family plans a private service, with details of a public memorial to follow.
