Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has described Nigeria as a challenging country for well-intentioned leaders due to systemic resistance to positive change. Speaking at a special church service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Umuahia to mark Governor Alex Otti’s two-year anniversary in office, Obi emphasized the need for public office holders to use public resources for public good.
“It is difficult to govern Nigeria, especially when you want to do it right,” Obi said, calling for prayers for leaders and the nation. He praised Governor Otti’s administration as a clear break from the norm and a model for good governance. “One day can make a difference. In Abia, everyone can see the change,” he stated.
Reaffirming his focus on national development, Obi said, “I’m not desperate to be President. I’m desperate to see Nigeria work.”
Governor Otti attributed his administration’s achievements to divine grace, quoting scripture and acknowledging the support of other government arms. He thanked Obi for his ongoing support and leadership, calling him a symbol of good governance.
Pastor Enyinnaya Uguru, in his sermon, urged leaders not to lose sight of long-term vision and commended Otti’s performance as evidence-based.
