Palestinians Face Growing Hunger Crisis as Israel Blocks Food Deliveries to Gaza for Nearly 60 Days
For almost two months, Israel has significantly restricted the flow of food into Gaza, creating a deepening humanitarian crisis as Palestinians struggle daily to feed their families. The blockade, now nearing its 60th day, has pushed Gaza’s already fragile food supply system to the brink of collapse.
Aid agencies and humanitarian organizations are sounding the alarm, warning that the ongoing restrictions are leading to severe food shortages, rising malnutrition rates, and increasing desperation among Gaza’s 2.3 million residents. Many families report skipping meals, surviving on limited supplies of bread and canned goods, and relying heavily on informal community support networks.
“This is not just a food shortage — it’s a full-blown humanitarian emergency,” said Amal Hassan, a spokesperson for the International Relief Coalition. “People are rationing what little they have, and children are the ones suffering the most.”
Israel has defended the blockade as a security measure amid ongoing tensions and conflict with Hamas, but human rights groups argue that cutting off food supplies violates international law and punishes civilians for political disputes beyond their control.
Prior to the current restrictions, Gaza was already heavily dependent on humanitarian aid, with more than half of its population relying on food assistance. Efforts to negotiate humanitarian corridors have so far yielded limited success. Although occasional shipments of aid have been permitted, they fall far short of meeting the basic needs of the population. Aid groups are calling for immediate and sustained access to deliver food, medical supplies, and other essentials to avert a larger catastrophe.
International leaders and organizations, including the United Nations, have urged Israel to lift or ease the blockade, warning that continued restrictions could have devastating long-term consequences for Gaza’s health and stability.
As the standoff continues, ordinary Palestinians are left facing impossible choices — whether to eat once a day to preserve supplies, or to go hungry in hopes that help will soon arrive.
