Palestinian Doctor Loses Nine Children in Gaza Airstrike, Remains in Intensive Care

Hamdi Al-Najjar, a Palestinian doctor and father of ten, remains in intensive care at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after an Israeli airstrike struck his home in Gaza over the weekend. The strike killed nine of his children, aged between one and twelve, leaving only one son seriously injured but stable.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Farra, treating Al-Najjar, confirmed he underwent two surgeries to stop bleeding in his abdomen and chest and sustained head injuries. Al-Najjar is intubated and heavily bandaged in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The Israeli military acknowledged conducting an airstrike in Khan Younis targeting suspected militants near Israeli forces but said civilians had been evacuated prior to the operation. It is investigating reports of civilian casualties.

Al-Najjar’s wife, pediatrician Alaa Al-Najjar, was not at home during the strike; she was treating war casualties at the same hospital. She was devastated upon returning to find her children killed.

The conflict in Gaza, ongoing since Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel, has displaced millions and resulted in tens of thousands of Palestinian deaths, mostly civilians and many children, according to Gaza health officials.

This tragic incident highlights the severe human toll of the conflict as medical and humanitarian crises continue to unfold.
