Owen Farrell Returns to Saracens After One Season in France, Signs Two-Year Deal

England fly-half Owen Farrell is set to return to Saracens on a two-year contract following a brief stint with French club Racing 92. The 33-year-old, who departed Saracens last summer, will rejoin the club where he spent 16 seasons and achieved six Premiership titles and three Champions Cup triumphs.

Farrell’s move back to the Premiership technically makes him eligible for England selection once again. However, after stepping back from international rugby following the 2023 Rugby World Cup to focus on his family’s mental well-being, it remains uncertain whether he will return to Test duty.

Despite early excitement around his move to France, Farrell’s campaign at Racing 92 was marred by injuries and a disappointing team performance. The Paris club finished 10th in the Top 14, failing to secure playoff or Champions Cup qualification. Racing’s outspoken owner Jacky Lorenzetti even criticized Farrell’s play, stating in February that he “played at the speed of a snail going backwards.”

Farrell made 112 England appearances and six British and Irish Lions Test caps. He is set to join Sky Sports’ coverage of the Lions’ 2025 tour opener against Argentina but will resume club duties with Saracens in the 2025/26 season.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall praised the return, saying Farrell’s “competitive spirit is woven into the fabric of this club” and adding that his presence will help guide the club’s young and promising squad.

Farrell reaffirmed his deep bond with the club: “Saracens is my home… I can’t wait to get back in the mix for the 25/26 season.”
