Ottawa Resident Frustrated After Snowbanks Render Costly Parking Permit Useless

Callum Elliot is paying double for parking after last week’s heavy snowfall left towering snowbanks blocking nearly every on-street parking spot in Centretown. Despite holding a $189 monthly permit for James Street, Elliot has been forced to park in various lots, racking up over $100 in additional fees.

Frustrated by the situation, Elliot questions why the city hasn’t extended free parking options beyond last week’s bans. He also suggests allowing permit holders to park beyond their designated zones or offering reimbursements.

City officials acknowledge the issue, citing the nearly 70 cm of snow that fell over five days. Roads and parking services director Quentin Levesque assured residents that crews are working continuously to clear snowbanks and restore accessibility, though the process remains slow due to the sheer volume of snowfall.
