Orji Uzor Kalu Backs Tinubu’s Economic Policies, Rejects Return to Fuel Subsidy as a “Scam”

Former Abia State Governor and current Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has firmly rejected any proposal for Nigeria to return to the era of fuel subsidy, describing it as a “very big scam.” Speaking from his Igbere country home, Kalu said the government should instead consider subsidizing agriculture and food production to cushion the effects of subsidy removal.

Kalu praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic direction, asserting that the president has made significant strides toward stabilizing the economy and pulling Nigerians out of poverty. He stressed that while economic growth may not be immediately visible at the grassroots level, key indicators like foreign exchange stability are showing improvement.

He called for patience, unity, and collective effort, saying that the global impact of COVID-19 is still affecting economies and could take 10 to 15 years to fully recover from.

The senator reiterated his support for the APC and described himself as “APC to the core.” He dismissed political noise from younger politicians as distractions and urged party members to focus on delivering victories both at state and federal levels.

On local development, Kalu announced plans to launch five factories in Igbere within a year, stressing the importance of peace and unity for industrial and economic progress.

He also defended his record as former governor, claiming credit for securing and developing Aba and Umuahia through initiatives like the Bakassi Boys. Kalu downplayed political speculation around his recent visit to Governor Alex Otti, stating it was a private discussion centered on the development of Abia State.

Calling for national unity and institutional trust, Kalu praised Nigeria’s judiciary and media, arguing that the country is on a steady path toward building a resilient democracy.
