OpenAI’s Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, will drive global expansion and corporate partnerships, CEO Sam Altman announced Monday. As the Microsoft-backed AI leader strengthens its market presence, Altman will focus on technical advancements while maintaining overall leadership.
A key initiative in OpenAI’s expansion is its partnership with SoftBank and Oracle on the $500-billion Stargate project, aimed at building a global network of AI data centers. Lightcap, who joined OpenAI in 2018 after working with Altman at Y Combinator, will oversee business strategy, partnerships, infrastructure, and operational excellence.
Additionally, OpenAI has expanded the role of Chief Research Officer Mark Chen, integrating research and product development to enhance AI innovation.
OpenAI is currently in the process of raising $40 billion as it transitions into a for-profit entity to secure the funding needed for cutting-edge AI model development. The company has also committed to simplifying its products to attract further investment.
