Zach Hyman scored twice and assisted, while Connor McDavid also netted two goals as the Edmonton Oilers surged to a 6-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Sunday, taking a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference Final series.

Evan Bouchard contributed a goal and an assist, John Klingberg scored, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins set up three goals. Goalie Stuart Skinner made 36 saves, earning his first playoff win that wasn’t a shutout.

After a shaky Game 1 loss in Dallas, the Oilers have won two straight. Jason Robertson scored for the Stars, who seek to avoid a consecutive third-round elimination by Edmonton.

Edmonton struck first late in the opening period with Bouchard’s point shot, followed 36 seconds later by McDavid’s fourth goal of the playoffs off a Nugent-Hopkins return pass. Nugent-Hopkins has now posted multi-point games in every series match, joining Wayne Gretzky as the only Oilers with that feat.

Dallas fought back in the second, with Lian Bichsel scoring his first playoff goal, but McDavid restored Edmonton’s two-goal lead before the period ended. The Stars outshot Edmonton 21-8 in the middle frame.

Early in the third, Nugent-Hopkins set up Hyman for a breakaway goal, and later Hyman scored again from Kane’s assist. Klingberg capped the scoring on a power play.

Dallas played without Roope Hintz, sidelined after a slash by Darnell Nurse. The Stars contested that Nurse deserved harsher discipline. Edmonton’s Mattias Ekholm remains injured but is expected back soon; Connor Brown left injured during Game 3.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday in Edmonton.
