Oilers and Panthers Clash in Game 5 of Stanley Cup Final as Series Tied 2-2

The Edmonton Oilers return to home ice Saturday night for a pivotal Game 5 in the 2025 Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers, with the series tied 2-2. Edmonton clawed back in dramatic fashion in Game 4, overturning a 3-0 deficit and sealing a 5-4 overtime win thanks to Leon Draisaitl’s record-setting fourth OT goal of the playoffs.

Calvin Pickard, who replaced starter Stuart Skinner after the first period of Game 4, will be in net for Edmonton. Pickard stopped 23 shots and made several highlight-reel saves to keep the Oilers alive. Skinner allowed three goals on 17 shots before being pulled, despite some key stops.

The seesaw battle between the two clubs has seen three of four games go to overtime, with the Panthers’ Game 3 blowout win the only outlier. Florida’s Sam Reinhart forced OT in Game 4 with a last-minute goal, but it wasn’t enough to stop Edmonton’s comeback surge.

The Oilers are hoping Pickard can replicate his first-round heroics, when he stepped in for Skinner with the team trailing the Los Angeles Kings 0-2 and won six straight games before suffering an injury in Round 2.

With momentum on their side and the energy of Rogers Place and Edmonton’s Ice District behind them, the Oilers aim to take a 3-2 series lead tonight. Fans can catch all the Stanley Cup Final action live on CBC TV.
