Marius Borg Høiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested on suspicion of rape, according to Norwegian police. The arrest comes after Høiby was accused of committing a sexual act on a woman in her 20s, who was allegedly unable to resist the act due to being unconscious. The woman, who had no prior relationship with Høiby, met him on the day of the alleged incident.
Høiby, who was born before his mother married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, was taken into custody late Monday night and held in a detention center on Tuesday. His lawyer, Øyvind Bratlien, has denied the allegations, emphasizing that Høiby pleads not guilty to most of the charges, except for an earlier incident involving bodily harm against his ex-girlfriend, criminal damage to her apartment, and a threat.
According to reports from Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, Høiby is facing multiple charges related to five different people, including four women and one man. Three of the women have been in relationships with him, and he is accused of abuse in those relationships. In August, Høiby was charged with assault and criminal damage following a violent incident with one of the women at an Oslo apartment. The woman involved was reportedly in the car with Høiby when he was arrested.
In addition to the charges related to the alleged assault and criminal damage, Høiby is also accused of threatening to kill a man in his 20s. His lawyer has confirmed that Høiby only admits guilt for the bodily harm and criminal damage incidents.
