Senate Leader Empowers Ekiti Disabled Children with Vehicle and Wheelchair Donations

In a heartwarming act of generosity, the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has extended a helping hand to children with disabilities at the Ekiti State Special School for the Disabled by donating vehicles and wheelchairs to support their mobility and improve the overall learning environment.

The philanthropic gesture was carried out at the Centre for the Disabled located in Ido-Ekiti, Ekiti State. Senator Bamidele, who represents Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive development and the welfare of all citizens, particularly vulnerable groups, during the presentation of the items.

The donations included a fully equipped utility vehicle for the school’s logistical needs, as well as several wheelchairs designed to enhance the independence and quality of life for physically challenged students.

Speaking at the event, Senator Bamidele emphasized that the donation was part of his broader legislative mission to promote social inclusion and human capital development. He noted that children with special needs deserve equal opportunities to thrive and participate in society.

“We cannot build a just society without catering to the needs of every member, particularly those with disabilities,” Bamidele said. “This donation is a token of my support and a call for more inclusive policies that prioritize access to education, healthcare, and mobility for persons with disabilities.”

The Senate Leader also commended the caregivers and staff of the school for their dedication to improving the lives of the students. He called on other public officials and well-meaning individuals to support institutions like the Ekiti Special School for the Disabled in order to bridge the gap in access to essential services.

The principal of the school, Mrs. Funke Adeoye, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the gesture. She described the donation as timely and impactful, stating that it would go a long way in easing the challenges faced by both students and staff.

“We are deeply grateful to Senator Bamidele. The wheelchairs will significantly improve the mobility of our students, while the vehicle will help us respond more efficiently to emergencies and administrative needs,” Adeoye said.

This latest philanthropic act is consistent with Senator Bamidele’s track record of community-oriented interventions. In recent years, he has launched several empowerment programs focused on education, healthcare, youth development, and rural infrastructure across Ekiti State.

Stakeholders in the disability rights community have lauded the gesture, calling it a step in the right direction toward creating an inclusive society where every individual can live with dignity and purpose.

The event concluded with a brief tour of the school’s facilities and an interactive session between the Senator and the children, some of whom performed songs and poetry in appreciation of the donation.

As calls grow louder for inclusive governance and better welfare policies for people living with disabilities, gestures like these shine a spotlight on the importance of compassion and active political will in driving social change.
