School Principal Urges Immediate End to Killings in Plateau and Benue, Calls for Government Intervention
A prominent school principal has made a passionate appeal to the government and community leaders, urging them to take decisive action to end the persistent killings in Plateau and Benue States. The call was made in light of the recent surge in violent attacks that have claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands of residents across both regions.
Speaking during a press briefing at the school premises, the principal condemned the ongoing violence and described it as a threat to education, peace, and the future of young Nigerians. According to him, the insecurity in these regions has not only led to loss of lives and property but has also crippled the educational sector, leaving children traumatized and unable to attend school.
“This carnage must stop. Our children deserve a safe environment to learn and grow. Education is the foundation of any thriving society, and without peace, we cannot have education,” he said.
The principal emphasized the psychological impact of the conflict on school children, noting that many pupils are battling trauma after witnessing the destruction of their communities and the killing of loved ones. He also lamented the displacement of students and teachers who have fled their homes due to fear of further attacks.
He urged the federal and state governments to prioritize the protection of lives and properties, especially in conflict-prone communities. He also called on security agencies to intensify their operations and ensure that perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.
In addition, the principal appealed to community leaders, religious institutions, and civil society organizations to play active roles in peacebuilding and reconciliation. He stressed the need for dialogue, tolerance, and unity among all ethnic and religious groups in Plateau and Benue States.
“Violence is never a solution. We must find peaceful ways to resolve our differences and co-exist as one people. The lives of our children and the future of our country depend on it,” he added.
The recent wave of killings in Plateau and Benue has drawn widespread condemnation from various stakeholders, including human rights groups and international observers. Many have described the situation as a humanitarian crisis that demands urgent attention.
As calls for peace continue to grow, many Nigerians are looking to the government for a lasting solution that will bring an end to the cycle of violence and restore normalcy to affected communities.
