Pres Presidential Amnesty Programme Distributes Laptops to Boost Academic Success of Scholarship Beneficiaries
In a strategic move aimed at strengthening the educational development of ex-agitators under the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), the Federal Government has commenced the distribution of brand-new laptops to scholarship beneficiaries across various tertiary institutions in Nigeria. This initiative underscores the programme’s commitment to empowering its scholars with digital tools necessary for academic excellence and professional development in a technology-driven world.
The distribution, which is part of ongoing efforts to reintegrate and empower former Niger Delta agitators, began earlier this month with hundreds of students receiving state-of-the-art laptops. The initiative targets beneficiaries enrolled under the PAP’s scholarship scheme who are currently pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Nigerian universities.
According to officials from the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the distribution of laptops is not only a response to the growing demand for digital learning tools but also a critical step toward bridging the digital divide faced by many students from underprivileged communities. It is expected that the laptops will enhance the academic performance of the students by facilitating easier access to online educational resources, research tools, and virtual learning platforms.
The Interim Administrator of the PAP, Major General Barry Tariye Ndiomu (rtd), reiterated the programme’s dedication to ensuring that no scholar is left behind in the evolving digital learning environment. He emphasized that the laptop distribution is part of a broader agenda focused on human capital development, digital inclusion, and socio-economic empowerment of the youth in the Niger Delta region.
“This is more than just handing out laptops,” said Ndiomu. “We are investing in the future of our scholars and equipping them with the tools they need to compete effectively on both national and global platforms. Education remains a powerful tool for transformation, and we are committed to supporting our beneficiaries every step of the way.”
Beneficiaries who have received their laptops expressed profound gratitude, noting that the devices will significantly improve their productivity and reduce the challenges associated with limited access to digital learning infrastructure. Many students who previously relied on shared or rented devices can now study and complete assignments with greater ease.
Observers and stakeholders have lauded the move as a timely and impactful gesture, especially in light of the current digital transformation in education. It aligns with the federal government’s broader vision of leveraging technology to enhance education and youth empowerment
