Police Arrest Three Suspected IPOB Members, Recover N10.3 Million in Imo State
In a recent breakthrough against criminal activities linked to separatist groups, the Imo State Police Command has apprehended three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The suspects were arrested during a tactical operation carried out in a targeted area of the state, and a total sum of N10.3 million was recovered from their possession.
According to a statement released by the police spokesperson, the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the operational structure of IPOB and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), which have been accused of instigating violence and insecurity in the South-East region.
The police disclosed that intelligence gathering and surveillance led to the operation that resulted in the arrest of the three suspects. Although the identities of the individuals have not been officially disclosed, the authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the recovered funds and the extent of their involvement in IPOB’s activities.
The N10.3 million cash was found during a search of the suspects’ hideout, believed to be used for coordinating attacks and funding subversive operations. The police stated that the arrest and seizure are major steps toward crippling the financial base of the group in the region.
Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, praised the efforts of the operatives involved and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the state. He also called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and actionable intelligence that could lead to the arrest of more criminal elements.
He further warned that anyone found supporting or harboring IPOB or ESN operatives would be treated as an accomplice and dealt with according to the law.
This development comes amid heightened security operations in Imo and neighboring states aimed at neutralizing threats posed by secessionist elements and restoring stability to affected communities. The arrest of the suspects and the recovery of such a large sum is seen as a significant success in the government’s broader counter-insurgency strategy.
The Nigerian Police Force has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, promising to maintain transparency and uphold human rights in its ongoing operations.
