NIGERIA: MultiChoice Nigeria Announces Another DSTV and GOtv Subscription Price Hike, Effective March 1

Pay-TV provider MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a price increase across its DStv and GOtv subscription packages, set to take effect on March 1, 2025.

According to a notice sent to customers on Monday, the DStv Compact bouquet will rise from N15,700 to N19,000, reflecting a 25% increase. The Compact Plus package will increase by 20%, moving from N25,000 to N30,000, while the premium package will jump from N37,000 to N44,500, also a 20% hike.

GOtv subscribers will also experience price adjustments. The Jinja package will increase from N3,600 to N3,900, while the Jolli package will go from N4,850 to N5,800. The Max package will now cost N8,500 instead of N7,200, and the Supa package will increase from N9,600 to N11,400. The highest-tier GOtv Supa Plus package will see an adjustment from N15,700 to N16,800.

MultiChoice attributed the price adjustments to rising operational costs, inflation, and currency depreciation in Nigeria. This follows multiple price hikes in 2023, including increases in April and November, which contributed to the loss of 243,000 subscribers between April and September 2024.

The company maintains that the increase is necessary to continue delivering high-quality local and international content. However, past price hikes have sparked backlash, with customers challenging the increases at the Consumer Protection Tribunal.
