The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commenced a two-year waiver on import duties and VAT for essential healthcare products, following a directive from the Federal Government aimed at enhancing local pharmaceutical production and improving access to critical medical supplies.
The waiver, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and announced by NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada, covers Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), excipients, Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs), Rapid Diagnostic Kits, reagents, and packaging materials. This policy is designed to reduce production costs, attract investments, and strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare industry.
Only pharmaceutical manufacturers recognized by the Federal Ministry of Health and possessing a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN) are eligible. The NCS will also publish quarterly reports to ensure transparency and accountability in the policy’s implementation.
