NIGERIA – House of Representatives Denies Binance Bribery Allegations, Urges Public to Verify Facts

The House of Representatives has called on the public to rely on verified information regarding the $150 million bribery allegation involving three of its members and cryptocurrency giant, Binance. The claims were made by Binance’s head of financial compliance, Tigran Gambaryan, who accused Ginger Onwusibe, Philip Agbese, and Peter Akpanke of demanding the bribe to block his arrest and prosecution for alleged financial crimes.

In separate statements, Agbese and Onwusibe denied the allegations and vowed to clear their names through legal means. On Saturday, the House, through its spokesman Akin Rotimi, released an official statement dismissing the claims as “recycled” and aimed at discrediting Nigerian institutions and public officials.

The House emphasized its commitment to transparency, accountability, and protecting democratic institutions, stressing that the allegations were directed at individuals, not the House as an institution. It also revealed that the matter has escalated into a government-to-government engagement involving Nigeria and the United States, with the Nigerian government rejecting financial settlement offers from Binance in defense of national interests.

The House confirmed that one of the accused members has initiated legal proceedings to protect his reputation, and others have been encouraged to follow suit. While the matter is already in court and part of ongoing diplomatic discussions, the House reiterated its stance to refrain from further comments in accordance with parliamentary and judicial principles.
