The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the Kano State athletes, the Kano State government, and the broader sports community following the sudden death of several athletes. The tragedy occurred as the team was returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

In a statement issued from Ilorin, the NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the nation’s shared grief. He prayed for the repose of the athletes’ souls and strength for their families during this difficult period.

The accident, which took place last Saturday, claimed the lives of multiple Kano State athletes, devastating the local sports community and the country at large.

Adding to the mourning, former Senate President and ex-Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, described the incident as a national loss. His statement, released through his Local Press Officer Mallam Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, sympathized with Kano State and all Nigerians affected by the tragedy, praying for divine strength for the bereaved families.
