The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it is finalising emergency evacuation plans for its citizens stranded in Israel and Iran, following the intensification of hostilities between the two Middle Eastern nations.
In a statement released Tuesday night, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that Nigerian embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran are actively engaging with affected nationals and coordinating efforts to ensure their safe return.
The Ministry urged Nigerians in both countries to comply with local security directives and register with the nearest Nigerian embassy or mission for further instructions. It also praised the dedication of diplomatic staff in both countries during the ongoing crisis.
“The Ministry commends the efforts put in place by our Missions in Tel Aviv, Israel and Tehran, Iran for their dedication and commitment to reaching out to the Nigerian Community in these difficult times,” the statement said, reaffirming that the safety and welfare of Nigerian citizens remains a top government priority.
Further details regarding the evacuation process are expected to be communicated through official government channels in the coming days.
The move follows Israel’s recent large-scale airstrikes on Iran, which targeted around 100 strategic sites, including nuclear and military installations. The attacks reportedly killed top Iranian military officials, including General Mohammad Bagheri and Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned the airstrikes as a “declaration of war” and vowed severe retaliation, escalating fears of a broader regional conflict.
Nigeria has renewed its appeal for a ceasefire and called on both Israel and Iran to embrace diplomacy and protect civilians, reiterating its support for international humanitarian law.
