Enugu Tragedy: Police Deny Involvement in Alleged Killing of 25 PersonsThe Nigeria Police Force

has officially denied any involvement in the alleged killing of 25 individuals in Enugu State, following reports circulating across social media and local news platforms.

According to a statement released by the Enugu State Police Command, the rumors suggesting that police officers were responsible for the deaths are unfounded, misleading, and intended to incite public unrest. The command stressed that no such operation leading to the mass killing was carried out by the police in any part of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Enugu State, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, addressed the claims on Monday, urging the public to disregard what he described as “fake news” designed to tarnish the image of law enforcement agencies.

“We categorically state that there is no truth whatsoever to these claims. The command did not engage in any operation that resulted in the death of 25 persons. We urge the public to remain calm and allow ongoing investigations to establish the facts,” Ndukwe said.

He further added that the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the origin of the reports and has urged anyone with credible information to come forward.

Meanwhile, civil society organizations and human rights activists have called for transparency and accountability, demanding a thorough and impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Although no official report or evidence has yet confirmed the death of 25 individuals, the growing tension in the state underscores the urgent need for clarity and communication from all relevant stakeholders.

The Enugu State Government has yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident, but sources close to the government hinted that consultations are ongoing to verify the situation and respond appropriately.

This development comes amid heightened security challenges in various parts of Nigeria, where incidents involving security operatives and civilian populations often spark outrage and debate over human rights and state violence.

As the story continues to develop, the public is advised to follow verified sources for updates and avoid spreading unverified information that could fuel panic or unrest.
