Neil Young has canceled his planned free concert in Ukraine, citing safety concerns amid the ongoing war with Russia.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer announced that while a suitable venue had been secured near a shelter, the shifting situation made it too risky for his crew and equipment.
“Our concert in Ukraine is canceled,” Young confirmed in a statement on his website. “I could not in good conscience take my crew and instruments into that area. My apologies to all.”
The cancellation comes as Russian drone attacks continue, breaking a limited ceasefire agreement in Odesa.
Young, 79, originally intended to kick off his international Love Earth Tour in Ukraine. Instead, the tour will now begin in Rättvik, Sweden, on June 18.
Supporting his upcoming album, Talking to the Trees, the 26-city tour will include stops in the New York area, with performances at Jones Beach on August 23 and Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on August 24, before concluding at the Hollywood Bowl on September 15.
