Nearly 11,000 Progressive Conservative Members Eligible to Vote in Upcoming Manitoba Leadership Election
The Progressive Conservative (PC) Party of Manitoba is preparing for its leadership election scheduled for April 26, 2025. As of the membership cutoff date on February 28, 2025, almost 11,000 party members are eligible to cast their votes to determine the next leader.
This leadership race was initiated following former Premier Heather Stefanson’s resignation on January 15, 2024, after the party’s defeat in the 2023 provincial election. Since her departure, Wayne Ewasko has been serving as the interim leader.
The PC Party has implemented a constituency-based weighted voting system for this election, ensuring equitable representation across all regions. Each constituency’s influence is balanced to prevent disproportionate sway from areas with higher membership numbers.
Two candidates have officially entered the leadership race:
Obby Khan: The current Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Fort Whyte, serving since 2021, and former Minister of Sport, Culture, and Heritage from January to October 2023.
Wally Daudrich: A businessman based in Churchill, Manitoba, and former federal Conservative candidate for the Churchill riding in 2008 and 2011.
Party members will have the opportunity to engage with the candidates through various events and debates leading up to the election. The PC Party emphasizes a transparent and fair process, encouraging all eligible members to participate actively in selecting the leader who will guide the party’s future direction.
