The Montreal Victoire remain optimistic about star goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens’ return to action following a lower-body injury sustained on March 18. While her availability for Canada’s women’s world hockey championship opener on April 10 against Finland remains uncertain, Desbiens has resumed skating, completing her third on-ice session since the injury.
Victoire general manager Daniele Sauvageau emphasized the need for ongoing monitoring, but signs point to Desbiens joining her teammates for Canada’s pre-camp in Czechia later this week. With fellow Canadian netminder Emerance Maschmeyer also sidelined, the team is assessing its options, including Toronto’s Kristen Campbell and 21-year-old Eve Gascon.
Desbiens, who led Canada to Olympic and world championship gold, tops the PWHL in wins (13), save percentage (.932), and goals-against average (1.85). Montreal, having secured a playoff spot, faces the New York Sirens on Tuesday before the league’s three-week international break.
