Montreal Roses FC, Ottawa Rapid FC Stay Hot with Wins in Northern Super League Action

Montreal Roses FC continued their perfect start to the inaugural Northern Super League season, defeating Vancouver Rise FC 3-1 on Sunday. Hailey Whitaker opened the scoring in the third minute, followed by goals from Alexandria Hess and Latifah Abdu, giving Montreal (2-0-0) a commanding 3-0 lead by halftime at Swangard Stadium.

Vancouver (1-1-0), playing its first home game after a season-opening win at B.C. Place Stadium, replied with a goal from Quinn but couldn’t close the gap. Montreal now prepares for its home opener against Ottawa Rapid FC on Saturday, while Vancouver hosts Halifax Tides FC on May 5.

Meanwhile, Ottawa Rapid FC celebrated a historic first victory in franchise history, edging AFC Toronto 2-1 at TD Place. Min-a Lee scored Ottawa’s first-ever goal in the 54th minute, and Desiree Scott added a late insurance marker in the 81st minute.

Kaylee Hunter made history for Toronto (0-2-0) with the team’s first goal in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a second straight loss. Toronto will look for a bounce-back win when they host Calgary Wild FC on Thursday.
