A Mississauga-based dentist, Nirali Sureshkumar Patel, is believed to be the Canadian citizen aboard the Air India Flight AI 171 that crashed Thursday in Ahmedabad, India. The flight, bound for London, went down just minutes after takeoff, killing all 242 people on board.
Patel’s husband confirmed her presence on the flight and is now arranging travel to India with their one-year-old child. Overcome with grief, he declined to provide further details.
The Boeing 787-8 crashed into a densely populated residential area, and authorities report there are no known survivors. Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed devastation over the loss, stating he is receiving ongoing updates and confirming a Canadian was among the victims.
