Mikael Kingsbury Claims Silver as Ikuma Horishima Ends Moguls Reign

Canadian freestyle skiing icon Mikael Kingsbury’s world championship moguls streak ended Wednesday as Japan’s Ikuma Horishima dominated the final with 89.03 points. Kingsbury, from Deux-Montagnes, Que., secured silver with 82.86 points, while South Korea’s Daeyoon Jung claimed bronze (81.76).

Kingsbury, a three-time reigning moguls world champion, now holds four gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in the event. He will have another shot at gold in the dual moguls competition on Friday, where he seeks a fourth consecutive title.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Maia Schwinghammer earned bronze in the women’s event with 74.92 points, finishing behind France’s Perrine Laffont (77.92) and Japan’s Hinako Tomitaka (75.15).

Kingsbury, who recently clinched three Crystal Globes in the World Cup season, had edged out Horishima in the final dual moguls event in Italy last week. However, Horishima’s victory in Switzerland marked his first world title in eight years.
