McDonald’s to Launch McValue National Menu to Boost Sales and Market Position in 2025

McDonald’s is set to introduce its new national value platform, McValue, starting Tuesday, January 7, 2025, across all U.S. locations. This initiative marks the company’s first nationwide value menu since the 2018 $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu, aiming to rejuvenate its performance following a challenging year marked by underwhelming sales and an E. coli outbreak.

What the McValue Platform Includes

The McValue menu will feature:

A $5 meal deal, initially launched in June 2024, which saw a temporary increase in foot traffic.

A “Buy One, Add One for $1” offer, targeting price-sensitive diners.

Local deals and in-app exclusives, leveraging technology to drive customer engagement.

John Palmaccio, a McDonald’s franchise operator and National Advertising Fund Chair, highlighted the rigorous planning behind the initiative. “We took the time to get it right, reviewing consumer and deal performance data to ensure the McValue business case was solid,” Palmaccio shared.

Why the McValue Platform Matters

The launch comes after McDonald’s faced growing competition in the value-driven fast-food market. Competitors rolled out strong value propositions, leaving McDonald’s without a unified offering to compete. Chris Kempczinski, McDonald’s CEO, emphasized the importance of a cohesive strategy during the company’s Q1 earnings call in April 2024.

Last year, McDonald’s U.S. same-store sales grew by just 0.3% in the latest quarter, falling short of Wall Street’s expectations. Analysts suggest the McValue menu could help reverse this trend by increasing customer transactions.

Nick Setyan, an analyst at Wedbush, believes the McValue platform won’t significantly boost profits directly but expects it to drive higher transaction volumes. “Even 2% same-store sales growth would be good enough in this competitive environment,” he noted.

A Return to Simplicity

The McValue platform represents McDonald’s fourth national value initiative in recent history. Unlike the 2018 Dollar Menu, criticized for being “too complex,” the new menu aims to be straightforward and appealing. Danilo Gargiulo, a Bernstein analyst, highlighted the need for clarity, while franchisees echoed the sentiment, calling past menus “ambiguous” to customers.

Looking Ahead

As McDonald’s kicks off 2025, the McValue menu reflects the chain’s commitment to aligning its strategy with evolving consumer needs and market dynamics. While it remains to be seen how this initiative impacts the company’s bottom line, it signals a determined effort to reclaim its position as a leader in value dining.

This relaunch could be the fresh start McDonald’s needs to regain investor confidence and attract budget-conscious diners in a competitive market.
