Mexico’s Maya Train, a landmark transportation project, is celebrating the first anniversary of its partial operation with the introduction of 10 new tourist packages aimed at simplifying travel for visitors. This announcement comes shortly after the train’s full 1,000-mile route was completed in mid-December.
The new packages, reported by Riviera Maya News, offer preferential airfare for travelers departing from Felipe Ángeles International Airport on the Mexicana de Aviación airline. Additionally, discounted rates are available at Maya Train hotels in key destinations such as Tulum, Chichén Itzá, Calakmul, and Edzná. Domestic travelers can also enjoy a 50% discount on certain elements of the packages, making travel even more accessible. These packages will soon be available on platforms like Visit Mexico and the official Maya Train website.
The Maya Train officially began its full operation on December 15, connecting iconic destinations across the five Mexican states of Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. This monumental rail system provides a unique and efficient way to explore Mexico’s cultural and historical landmarks.
The project, however, has not been without challenges. Environmental concerns were raised by advocacy groups over potential damage to rainforests, and the train faced significant budget overruns during its construction. Early public interest was also limited before the rail system reached full completion.
