A powerful explosion shook The Whaler resort in Kāʻanapali, Hawaii, on Thursday around 6:15 p.m., injuring seven people and sending plumes of smoke and debris into the air. Emergency responders, including Maui police and firefighters, rushed to the scene at 2481 Kāʻanapali Parkway.
Authorities confirmed the victims ranged in age from 18 to 74, with three critically injured. One person was airlifted to Maui Memorial Medical Center for emergency care. Officials assured the public there is no ongoing threat.
A representative for The Whaler was unavailable for comment as of Friday morning.
