A large fire at a chemical factory near Vilanova i la Geltrú in northeastern Spain prompted emergency health warnings for 150,000 people and stay-indoors orders for five towns on Saturday. The blaze erupted early in the day inside a warehouse storing 70 tons of chlorine used for swimming pools, located between Barcelona and Tarragona on the Mediterranean coast.
Local health services reported four individuals experiencing breathing issues. Authorities issued a seven-hour shelter-in-place directive for nearby municipalities to avoid exposure to potentially toxic fumes. By Saturday afternoon, firefighters had brought the fire under control.
