The Manitoba government has announced a $17 million investment aimed at creating jobs, expanding training programs, and advancing innovation in the aerospace sector.
Premier Wab Kinew shared details of this initiative during a press conference at the Manitoba Legislative Building, emphasizing its potential to elevate the province’s aerospace industry on the global stage.
The funding includes an $8 million grant and a $9 million repayable loan over 12 years to Magellan Aerospace, a prominent company with two manufacturing facilities in Winnipeg.
The investment will support the establishment of a cutting-edge machining center and a new testing environment, expected to create 64 new jobs. Magellan Aerospace’s general manager, Ron Drepaul, highlighted the significance of this funding in improving efficiency and competitiveness.
“This investment positions us to deliver state-of-the-art products and hire additional staff, which will ultimately strengthen our foothold in the global aerospace market,” said Drepaul.
A portion of the funding will also go toward training programs at Red River College Polytech, providing students with essential skills to succeed in the evolving aerospace industry.
Premier Kinew emphasized the long-term vision of the project, stating, “This initiative not only secures jobs for Manitobans but also builds a foundation for sustainable growth in our aerospace sector.”
The Manitoba government’s investment is part of a broader effort to drive economic development and bring international recognition to the province’s aerospace capabilities.
