Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is set to miss up to seven weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth, manager Pep Guardiola confirmed. Haaland, who scored City’s equalizer before being substituted in the 61st minute, was seen leaving the stadium on crutches with his left ankle in a protective boot.
Guardiola stated that doctors estimate a recovery period of “five to seven weeks,” with hopes that Haaland will return in time for the FIFA Club World Cup this summer. City had earlier announced that the Norwegian would see a specialist but expect him to feature again this season.
Haaland, who has netted 30 goals across all competitions this season, will miss crucial fixtures, including the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 26. If sidelined for the full seven weeks, he could be doubtful for the FA Cup final on May 17 should City progress. A return for the final Premier League match on May 25 against Fulham remains a possibility.
City, currently fifth in the Premier League and battling for a Champions League spot, have faced a season plagued by injuries. The FA Cup remains their last shot at silverware after early exits from the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
