Madeline Schizas, a Beijing 2022 Olympian, dazzled audiences at the Canadian Championships in Laval, Quebec, securing her third national figure skating title on Sunday, January 19. The 21-year-old skater impressed with her exceptional performances, building on her lead from the short program.
Schizas debuted her captivating “Butterfly Lovers Concerto” program in the free skate, earning 133.87 points to bring her overall score to 203.87. This remarkable achievement marks her return to dominance after winning back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 but ceding the crown to Kaiya Ruiter in 2024.
Sara-Maude Dupuis, who stood third after the short program, claimed the silver medal with a total score of 182.61, narrowly edging Katherine Medland Spence, who secured bronze with 181.55 points. Defending champion Kaiya Ruiter finished in fourth place, scoring 179.41.
In the ice dance category, Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier delivered a stunning performance to “A Whiter Shade of Pale” by Annie Lennox. Their free dance earned 137.71 points, culminating in a total score of 229.55, as they claimed their fourth national title.
Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha took the silver medal with a score of 218.52, while Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer secured bronze with 195.88 points.
The Canadian Championships showcased the nation’s figure skating talent as athletes continue to build momentum ahead of future international competitions, including the highly anticipated Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
