Luxury London Hotel Evacuated After Massive Blaze at Chiltern Firehouse

Approximately 100 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at the Chiltern Firehouse, a luxury hotel near Baker Street in London.

Twenty fire engines and 125 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the blaze, which started on the ground floor and spread through ducting to the roof. The fire also affected a neighboring building.

The incident occurred at 2:52 PM on Friday, and while the fire at the hotel was brought under control by evening, significant damage was reported, likely requiring extensive repairs.

The Chiltern Firehouse, a former Victorian fire station and a £760-a-night hotspot for celebrities, was due to host Netflix’s BAFTA Awards party on Sunday. Known for hosting A-list names like Taylor Swift, Tom Cruise, and Kate Moss, the venue is now expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future.

Owner André Balazs confirmed no injuries and expressed gratitude to the firefighters, including one who had served in the building when it was still an operational fire station 30 years ago.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with a cordon in place around the property in Marylebone.
