RCMP have confirmed that one of two sets of human remains discovered late last month at a landfill north of Winnipeg belongs to Morgan Beatrice Harris. Harris, a member of the Long Plain First Nation, was one of four Indigenous women murdered in 2022 by convicted serial killer Jeremy Skibicki. The search for the remains of Harris and Marcedes Myran has been ongoing since late last year.
In a social media post, Morgan’s daughter described the news as a “very bittersweet moment,” expressing hope that both families will bring their loved ones home. The Manitoba government stated that Harris’s remains were found on February 26, with further information to be provided as facts are confirmed.
Skibicki was convicted in July 2024 of first-degree murder in the deaths of Harris, Myran, Rebecca Contois, and an unidentified woman known as Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe. The discovery of Harris’s remains highlights ongoing concerns about the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, and gender-diverse people.
