Katy Knoll’s Triple OT Goal Puts Minnesota Frost One Win Away from PWHL Title

Katy Knoll scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime and Maddie Rooney delivered a stellar 35-save performance as the Minnesota Frost edged the Ottawa Charge 2-1 in Game 3 of the PWHL championship series on Saturday night in St. Paul. With the win, Minnesota takes a 2-1 series lead and is now one win away from securing a second consecutive Walter Cup title.

Knoll capitalized on a rebound off Klara Hymlarova’s point shot at 9:57 of the third overtime, marking the first triple-overtime game in PWHL Finals history. The goal sealed a tense matchup in which both teams showcased elite goaltending and defensive grit.

Ottawa’s Gwyneth Philips recorded an impressive 45 saves, while Emily Clark gave Ottawa an early lead in the first period, finishing a setup from Gabbie Hughes. Minnesota responded when Lee Stecklein equalized early in the third with a wrist-shot assisted by Claire Thompson.

The series has featured back-to-back-to-back overtime games: Ottawa took Game 1 in OT, Minnesota responded with an OT win in Game 2, and now holds the edge after a marathon Game 3.

Minnesota can clinch the best-of-five series and lift the Walter Cup with a win in Game 4 on Monday at Xcel Energy Center.
