Kamala Harris Calls Trump a “Threat to Democracy” in Fiery Fox News Interview
Washington, D.C. – Vice President Kamala Harris delivered sharp criticism of former President Donald Trump during a combative interview on Fox News, labeling him “unfit to serve” and a danger to U.S. democracy. The interview, conducted by Fox News anchor Bret Baier, featured tense exchanges as Harris sought to contrast Trump’s leadership with the Biden administration while making the case for her potential presidency.
Harris Warns of Trump’s Threat to Democracy
Harris criticized Trump’s rhetoric, referencing his remarks about using the military against political opponents and undermining peaceful protests. She argued these comments highlight his instability:
“Trump has discussed using the American military against Americans, targeting peaceful protesters, and imprisoning political opponents simply for dissent,” Harris said. “This is a democracy, and in the United States, leaders must handle criticism without resorting to authoritarian tactics.”
Harris’s remarks reflect a growing concern within the Biden-Harris administration over Trump’s escalating rhetoric. His recent comments targeting “radical left lunatics” and internal enemies have raised alarms about the potential misuse of military power if he regains the presidency.
“Not a Continuation of Biden’s Presidency”
In response to questions about how her presidency would differ from Joe Biden’s, Harris clarified that her administration would not be a simple extension of Biden’s term:
“My presidency will bring new perspectives and fresh ideas, shaped by my own life and professional experiences,” Harris said. She highlighted plans to expand housing assistance for first-time homebuyers and boost funding for small businesses as key priorities under her leadership.
When asked by Baier about her comment on The View that she could not immediately name anything she would have done differently from Biden, Harris doubled down:
“My presidency would turn the page from the divisive politics of Trump’s era,” she said, emphasizing a commitment to unity.
Border Security and Immigration Issues
Baier pressed Harris on immigration, particularly the rise in border crossings during the Biden administration. She avoided providing a direct figure for how many undocumented immigrants were released but criticized Trump for rejecting a bipartisan plan to bolster border security.
“There’s no question that tragic cases involving families affected by illegal immigration are heartbreaking,” Harris said. “But if the proposed border security plan had passed nine months ago, we would now have more agents and resources to prevent future harm.”
Addressing Trump Ads on Transgender Inmate Care
The conversation turned to campaign ads targeting Harris for allegedly supporting taxpayer-funded transgender procedures for inmates. Harris dismissed the attacks as hypocritical, pointing out that such procedures were also available under Trump’s administration:
“Trump’s campaign is throwing stones from a glass house,” Harris said, adding, “These surgeries were provided on a medically necessary basis, even under his leadership.”
Campaign’s Take on the Interview
After the interview, Harris’s campaign communications director, Brian Fallon, told reporters that the interview achieved its purpose by engaging a new audience.
“There are many independents and Republicans open to voting for Harris,” Fallon said. “By appearing on Fox News, she demonstrated toughness while communicating her message to viewers who may not have heard it before.”
