England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker, James Anderson, has officially entered The Hundred draft set for later this month.
Despite never having featured in the competition, Anderson continues his playing career after retiring from international cricket last July. The legendary seamer, who turns 43 just before The Hundred’s 2025 edition kicks off on August 5, has already committed to Lancashire with a new one-year deal for County Championship and T20 cricket.
Anderson will now seek a contract in The Hundred on March 12, having gone unsold in the 2024 Indian Premier League auction. He last played competitively in his final Test against West Indies at Lord’s, where he claimed three wickets, taking his career tally to 704 in 188 matches.
Though he has not played a white-ball game since 2019 and last featured in T20 cricket over a decade ago, Anderson has remained active within England’s setup as a bowling mentor, including at the Champions Trophy. Last year, he expressed his interest in The Hundred, stating that the swing-friendly conditions made him feel he could still make an impact.
A host of England internationals, including Jason Roy, Dawid Malan, and Zak Crawley, are also up for grabs in the draft, while rising stars like Rocky Flintoff and Archie Vaughan could attract attention. Players who go undrafted will have another chance to be signed as wildcard selections later in the season.
