JAMB Apologizes for Errors in 2025 UTME Results, Announces Retakes for Affected Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has admitted to errors in the results of some candidates who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). Following widespread complaints of low scores from candidates with a strong performance history, JAMB has begun reviewing the results in collaboration with stakeholders.

On Wednesday, JAMB Registrar Professor Is-haq Oloyede offered an apology to affected candidates, acknowledging the errors and taking full responsibility. He revealed that 157 examination centres out of a total of 882 across Nigeria would require retakes. A total of 379,997 candidates from these centres in Lagos and the South-east regions will retake their exams starting on Friday, May 16.

The affected candidates will be notified via text messages, emails, and phone calls, and are advised to reprint their examination slips for the rescheduled dates. Additionally, JAMB has coordinated with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to ensure that there are no clashes with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). In case of timetable conflicts, particularly for Agricultural Science, affected candidates will be rescheduled.

The errors occurred due to an issue with the shuffling of questions in the “LAG vehicle,” which covers the South-west and South-east zones. After the mock exams, JAMB noticed that the questions were not properly shuffled, making it easier for candidates to cheat. Though the issue was corrected, errors remained in the Lagos and Owerri zones due to an oversight in updating the delivery servers by the technical team.

Oloyede reassured the public that the problem was contained within the affected zones, with no irregularities found in other areas. He stressed the importance of transparency and urged candidates to accept the explanation as the truth of the matter.
