Jack Draper continued his sensational 2025 season by reaching the Madrid Open final with a commanding 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) win over Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. The British No. 1, who will officially break into the ATP top five on Monday, has yet to drop a set in Madrid. Draper credited his win to tactical adjustments, including a shift to serve-and-volley play and mental resilience rooted in rigorous training.
He now faces Norwegian star Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final. Ruud, battling through a rib injury, showed grit by defeating Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 7-5, saving 15 of 18 break points. The two-time French Open finalist will appear in his 18th career clay final, trailing only Novak Djokovic among active players.
Draper, who won Indian Wells in March, stands just 25 points behind world No. 4 Taylor Fritz in the ATP rankings and could overtake him with a title in Madrid. Draper’s rise has been especially impressive on clay, a surface long seen as his weakest.
