IPL 2025 Suspended for One Week Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for one week following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The IPL Governing Council announced the decision after consultations with franchisees, players, broadcasters, sponsors, and fans, emphasizing that while it trusts the nation’s armed forces, the move was made in the collective interest of all stakeholders.

The tournament, which still has 12 group matches and four playoff games pending, has entered a holding phase as discussions continue over how to complete the remaining fixtures. The BCCI is expected to consult the Indian government and broadcasters before announcing a revised schedule.

Parallel developments have affected the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has suspended its matches indefinitely and abandoned plans to relocate to the UAE. The escalation of hostilities has also prompted English players in the PSL to consider leaving Pakistan.

Moving IPL matches abroad, particularly to England, remains unlikely due to scheduling conflicts with domestic and international commitments. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) remains in regular contact with its players in the IPL, including Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, and Sam Curran, coordinating through security advisers and the Professional Cricketers’ Association.

Despite the suspension, India’s scheduled five-Test tour of England from June to August is set to proceed as planned. The series begins at Headingley on June 20.
