Hannah Miller Ruled Ineligible for Team Canada at Women’s World Championship

After an impressive season with the Toronto Sceptres, forward Hannah Miller will not represent Canada at the upcoming Women’s World Championship in April. Despite earning a spot on the 25-player roster following a standout performance in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), Miller was deemed ineligible by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

Miller, who posted 24 points in 26 games this season, previously played for China at the 2022 Winter Olympics and the Division B World Championship. According to IIHF rules, athletes who have represented another country must wait two years from their last international play before becoming eligible to switch teams.

Team Canada general manager Gina Kingsbury expressed disappointment, noting that the team had hoped Miller met all the conditions for eligibility. Miller, a two-time Under-18 World Champion with Canada, will be replaced by Sceptres teammate Julia Gosling, who contributed 10 points in her first PWHL season.

Miller’s absence leaves Canada without a top-six centre option and adds to the team’s growing list of injuries, including starting goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens.

Canada’s World Championship campaign begins April 10 in Czechia, with the team facing Finland in their opening game. The tournament, which runs through April 20, will be Canada’s final major competition before the 2026 Olympics.
